Frequently Asked Questions

Question 1

What’s the design process?

My clients often ask how will we deliver the project. What is the process, especially when they have never worked with an Interior designer before?

We would first set up a meeting and make sure to listen attentively to our client’s ideas, preferences, and any specific requirements they may have. This initial meeting is crucial as it allows us to establish a strong foundation for the project and ensures that we are aligned with the client's vision.

After gathering all the necessary information, we move on to the next phase of the design process, which involves conducting thorough research and analysis. This step helps us gain a deeper understanding of the client's style, functional needs, and budget constraints. We explore various sources of inspiration such as magazines, online platforms, and even visiting similar spaces to gather ideas that will contribute to creating a unique design concept.

Once we have gathered enough information and inspiration, we begin developing initial design concepts. These concepts serve as a starting point for our creative process and allow us to present different options to the client. We create mood boards, sketches, or 3D renderings that help visualize how their space could potentially look like.

Collaboration with the client During the collaboration process, we actively involve the client in every step of the design journey. We value their input and feedback, as it helps us refine and tailor the concepts to their specific needs and preferences. By working closely together, we ensure that the final design not only meets their expectations but also exceeds them, creating a space that truly reflects their vision and personality.

Concept design options.

We include the proposal of the colour scheme, material direction, lighting scheme, and floor layouts, as well as a visualisation of your space and the overall look and feel.

If desired, we can also offer photo-realistic renderings with our selections so that you can truly visualize your space before making any final decisions.

We will always discuss the pricing of items along the way, keeping the budget in mind, with every aspect of the design.

With each design/space, we provide prices accordingly - Everything from contractors to the materials and furnishings.

Depending on the scope of your project and the timeliness of your decision-making, this phase can take a couple of weeks (for one or two rooms), to a few months, or more, (for a full-scale design or remodel).

We present a clear time plan:

How we would take the project and its coordination.

We would, together, agree on the best way of implementing the spaces and making this process as clear and undisruptive as possible.

We always make sure that the client is updated daily with the process and the progress of the project.

Question 5

How much do you charge and do you take small projects on?

By hiring an interior designer, you not only gain access to their expertise and creative vision but also their ability to work within your budget. We understand that not all projects are large-scale and we are more than willing to take on small projects as well. Whether it's a single-room makeover or a small renovation, we believe that every space deserves attention to detail and thoughtful design.

One of the advantages of working with an interior designer is their extensive network of businesses and suppliers. This allows us to compare prices and source the best value for specific budgets. We can find high-quality materials, furniture, and decor at competitive prices, ensuring that you get the most out of your investment.

Another benefit of utilizing a designer's professional services upfront is the potential to avoid costly mistakes. Designers have a trained eye for spatial planning, colour coordination, and overall aesthetics. By involving a designer from the beginning, they can help you make informed decisions about layout, materials, and finishes that will suit your style and needs.

Question 6

How do I choose between the many interior design styles?

In addition to considering your personal preferences and needs, there are a few other factors to keep in mind when choosing between interior design styles.

Firstly, consider the architectural style of your home or space. The interior design should complement and enhance the existing structure rather than clash with it. For example, if you have a modern, minimalist home, a contemporary or Scandinavian Interior design style might be more suitable, whereas a traditional or vintage style could work well in a Victorian-era house.

Secondly, think about the functionality of the space. Different design styles lend themselves better to certain functionalities. For instance, if you're designing a home office or study area, a more organized and efficient style like modern or industrial might be appropriate. On the other hand, for a cosy living room meant for relaxation and comfort, a rustic or bohemian style could create the desired ambience.

Consider the mood and atmosphere you want to create in each room. If you're aiming for a tranquil and serene atmosphere, a coastal or beach-inspired style can transport you to a peaceful seaside retreat. The soft hues of blue and white, along with natural textures like rattan and driftwood, create a soothing ambience that instantly relaxes the mind and body. On the other hand, if you're looking to infuse a sense of elegance and sophistication into your space, a classic or traditional style with rich fabrics, ornate furniture, and intricate details can help you achieve that refined atmosphere. Some styles evoke specific emotions or themes.

Question 7

How will you present your design concept and ideas?

Our Interior designers would present 3D renderings, technical drawings, and walkthroughs to give clients a realistic and immersive experience of their future space. This allows them to visualize the design concept more accurately and make informed decisions.

In addition to visual communication techniques, we believe in effective verbal communication as well. Our interior designers will thoroughly explain the design concept, highlighting key elements, materials, colours, and furniture choices. We will ensure that clients understand the reasoning behind each decision and how it aligns with their goals and preferences.

To further enhance the presentation of our design concept, we would also provide written documentation that outlines the project scope, timeline, and budget estimates. This comprehensive document will serve as a reference for clients to refer back to throughout the project.

Furthermore, we value client collaboration and input in our design process. We encourage open discussions and welcome feedback from clients at every stage. By actively involving them in the decision-making process, we can refine our ideas based on their preferences and create a space that truly reflects their vision.

We understand that choosing materials and furnishings for your home is a personal and subjective process. While we can provide visuals to give you a clear idea of how the design will come together, we highly recommend seeing the materials and furnishings in person whenever possible.

By physically experiencing the textures, colours, and finishes, you can truly appreciate their quality and how they complement each other within the space. It allows you to touch, feel, and visualize how these elements will enhance your daily living experience.

Moreover, visiting showrooms or suppliers gives you an opportunity to ask questions, seek expert advice, and explore alternative options that may better align with your preferences or budget. It also ensures that there are no surprises when it comes to the final result.

At our firm, we prioritize transparency and open communication throughout the design process. We want you to feel confident in every decision made for your home. By involving you in this crucial step of physically engaging with materials and furnishings, we ensure that your vision is fully understood.

This is a crucial, and very important part of the design process and our approach. This is your home, and we fully respect that!

Question 8

When you design a room, what is the most important interior design advice you give?

One of the most important pieces of advice would be to always consider the practicality of the overall space. This is the key to a  successful outcome. We carefully listen to our clients.

How do you use the room? Who is using the space? How many people live in the house?

In an open environment, it is crucial to create designated zones within the room to ensure functionality and organization. This can be achieved by using furniture placement, rugs, or even different lighting techniques to define separate areas for various activities.

Another important aspect of interior design advice is to consider the flow and circulation within the room. It is essential to arrange furniture in a way that allows for easy movement and avoids any obstructions. This not only enhances the practicality of the space but also contributes to a more comfortable and inviting atmosphere.

Furthermore, paying attention to the scale and proportion of furniture is vital. Oversized or undersized pieces can disrupt the balance of a room and make it feel either cramped or empty. Striking the right balance ensures that each element complements one another, creating a harmonious and visually pleasing environment.

Additionally, incorporating elements of personal style and individuality into the design is crucial. A well-designed room should reflect the personality and preferences of its occupants. By adding personal touches such as artwork and decorative items that hold sentimental value, the room becomes a true reflection of the people who inhabit it. These personal touches not only add character and charm to the space but also create a sense of belonging and comfort. Whether it's displaying cherished photographs, showcasing unique collections, or incorporating favourite colours and patterns, the design should celebrate the individuality of the occupants. This attention to personal style not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the room but also fosters a deeper connection between the space and its inhabitants. It is through these personalized elements that a room truly becomes a home, a place where memories are made and cherished for years to come.

Well planned layout

Storage

Lighting layout (one of the most important factors that affect great design).

Overall practicality and importance of client wish list

Selection of the right colour, and the right material for each space

Question 9

Should I bring anything to the meeting?

Additionally, it would be beneficial to bring any floor plans or measurements of the space you want to be designed. This will allow us to have a better understanding of the layout and dimensions, enabling us to provide more accurate suggestions and recommendations.

If you have any specific furniture or decor items that you already own and would like to incorporate into the design, bringing pictures or descriptions of those pieces would be helpful as well. This way, we can ensure that the new design complements your existing belongings seamlessly.

Furthermore, if you have a budget in mind for the project, it would be advantageous to share that information during the meeting. Understanding your financial constraints will enable us to tailor our recommendations accordingly and propose suitable options within your desired price range.

Lastly, if there are any specific requirements or preferences you have regarding functionality, such as storage needs or specific room purposes, please communicate those during the meeting. In order to provide you with the best possible design solutions, it would also be helpful for us to understand your overall vision and style preferences. Whether you have a modern, minimalist aesthetic in mind or prefer a more traditional and ornate look, sharing your design preferences will allow us to create a space that truly reflects your personal taste. Additionally, if there are any specific design elements or materials that you particularly love or dislike, please let us know during the meeting so that we can incorporate or avoid them accordingly.

Additionally, it is important for us to know your timeline for the project. Whether you have a specific deadline or a general timeframe in mind, sharing this information will help us ensure that we can deliver the final design within your desired timeframe. This will allow us to prioritize those aspects while creating a design plan that not only looks aesthetically pleasing but also meets your time constraints. By providing us with these details, we can work together to create a space that not only meets your functional needs but also reflects your personal style and preferences. This will allow us to prioritize those aspects while creating a design plan that not only looks aesthetically pleasing.

Question 10

How long will the design process take?

For most projects, this could be around 2-5 weeks of planning, depending on the size of the project. Most interior design projects could take anywhere from 3–6 months to plan, again, depending on the size. Small spaces ( one room) can take up to 3 weeks of planning.

If you are on a tight timeline, we will do everything in our power to complete your home as quickly as possible, but it’s important to be considered as early as possible. Any custom-made furniture is often built-to-order, and this could potentially set back the timescale- Anywhere from 6 to 12 weeks to arrive (sometimes more, sometimes less).  The sooner we are involved, the better.

Question 11

What is expected of me during the installation phase?

When it comes to an installation, we would be happy to manage all of the orders for your furnishings and make sure everything arrives on time/schedule, in the correct finish, colour, and size, and, of course, undamaged. We would keep track of everything going into your new space and organise it, room by room. This would involve the coordination of the trade, and making sure everything is installed on time, as well as per the agreed drawings. We would stay in constant contact with the contractors and visit the job site to ensure work is progressing on schedule and that our designs are being built as intended. We share all of our paint, lighting, finishing, and plumbing schedules, with the contractors, so they know exactly what is going where. To make sure that our design intent is clearly communicated, we provide the contractors with detailed construction drawings such as:

Joinery layouts, lighting plans, bathroom layouts, and any other essential information required. Throughout this phase of the project, we will check in with you often to address any questions or concerns.

Question 12

What happens once the project is completed?

Once the project is completed, our main focus will be on ensuring that everything has been implemented according to the agreed-upon plans and specifications. We would conduct a thorough inspection of the space to identify any remaining issues or snagging that need to be addressed. Our team would work diligently to rectify these issues and ensure that all aspects of the project are fully completed.

In addition to addressing any outstanding snagging, we would also take the necessary steps to get the space ready for immediate use. This may involve cleaning, organizing, and arranging furniture or equipment in a way that optimizes functionality and aesthetics. Our goal is to create a space that not only meets your requirements but also reflects your vision and style.

To add the finishing touches, we would coordinate with professional stylists who specialize in interior design. Their expertise will help enhance the overall look and feel of the space, ensuring it aligns with your desired aesthetic preferences. Whether it's selecting artwork, arranging decorative elements, or choosing colour schemes, our Interior designers will make sure your space is fully ready to be used and enjoyed.

Question 13

What’s the cost of the project?

Our Interior design team in Cambridgeshire will carefully assess various factors such as the complexity of the project, required resources, and any specific needs or preferences you may have.

To provide an accurate estimate, we will consider all relevant aspects, including materials, labour, equipment, and any additional expenses that might arise during the course of the project. By conducting a thorough analysis, we aim to eliminate any surprises or unexpected costs along the way.

Furthermore, we understand that adhering to a budget is crucial for many clients. We will collaborate closely with you to establish a realistic budget that aligns with your project's scope of work. Our goal is to maximize efficiency and minimize unnecessary expenditures without compromising on quality.

Throughout the project's lifecycle, our Interior designers will maintain open lines of communication with you regarding any potential changes or adjustments that may impact the cost. We believe in transparency and want to ensure that you are fully informed and involved in the decision-making process. Our goal is to work collaboratively with you to address any concerns or requirements that arise during the project.

We understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, and we are committed to promptly notifying you of any potential changes that may affect the project's timeline or budget.
